ISKSAA LEICESTER UK TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2014
I am so grateful to Dr Pushpinder Bajaj, PRESIDENT ISKSAA, and Dr Lalit Maini, ISKSAA CHAIRMAN, for
giving me this opportunity for Leicester Fellowship 2014, coordinated by Dr R. Pandey sir, Head of
Dept. University Hospitals of Leicester, NHS.
Fellowship started in April 2015; we were two isksaa fellows for this programme. Dr Pandey invited
us at the best time, the weather was so good, it was worth waiting for few months. He planned
everything very well and beautifully considering the best season.
He arranged my stay at resident hostel in campus, he invited us to his home and himself came to pick
me up from hostel, I am so obliged. We had delicious dinner with his family and colleagues. He was
so happy when I greeted him with his favourite Indian sweets as suggested by his batchmate Dr
Bansal, who by chance saw my fellowship papers in office at my hospital, and told me that Dr. Pandey
is his batchmate. It was so lucky to have met him.
Next day after introduction to all staff and other doctors he took us to opd, wards and operation
theatre
He organised and planned so much surgical exposure in coordination with his other orthopaedic
colleagues especially Dr. Kulkarni, ranging from complicated trauma, shoulder arthroscopy, revision
ACL to revision knee, hip arthroplasty etc
Dr Kulkarni was so nice to both of us, he is really a gem. He was so good in revision arthroplasty
with so much of patience and delicacy for highly risky osteoporotic bones.
Dr Pandey is a great and very balanced surgeon, full of energy, so enthusiastic to teach us as much
as he could in that short time of two weeks.
Dr Pandey took us to lecture theatre at medical college Leicester exposing us for cases presentation
and nice discussion there.
One day he drove us to a peripheral clinic along with his resident Dr. Patel, and it was so
impressive to see spectrum of his work, from periphery to a tertiary care Hospital.
Overall, I can say, Dr. Pandey along with his team of Orthopaedic surgeons, were so good to us, so
well-coordinated exposure to every aspect of orthopaedics in such a short interval.
I am so thankful to Dr. Pandey and his team.
Kudos to the organizers of ISKSAA for taking so much efforts to teach and expose our young doctors,
giving extraordinary opportunities, with such a great platform worldwide, to train, to shape careers
for best possible care for Humankind.
