ISKSAA LANCASHIRE TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2024
I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj sir and Lalit Maini sir along with whole ISKSAA team for providing me the opportunity to pursue ISKSAA LANCASHIRE TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2024 in Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty under mentorship of Mr. Makaram Srinivasan. I would also like to mention Mr. Mohan and Mr. Hamad for their continued guidance during our fellowship. I would also like to mention my fellow colleague Dr. Varun Phogat who happens to be my best friend and an avid traveller and sports enthusiast.
I flew to London airport from New Delhi on 9th November 2024 and then travelled by bus to Blackburn. I stayed at Newspaper House, an amazing bed and breakfast located in heart of city of blackburn with easy access to all amenities. Weather in Lancashire was some sight to see with sunny skies changing to rainfall and snowfall with extremely chilly wind within few hours, something I never experienced in my life.
My fellowship started from 11th November at Royal Blackburn Hospital where Mr. Makaram introduced us to all his team members as well as his colleagues and was extremely kind and caring. We spent most of our fellowship days at Burnley general hospital where all the elective surgeries are done. We witnessed many upper limb surgery including reverse shoulder arthroplasty and shoulder arthroscopy done by Mr. Makaram. Mr. Makaram is an excellent surgeon and mentor who guided us step by step of every surgery and also shared many useful tips and tricks of reverse shoulder Arthroplasty. It was an absolute pleasure meeting and learning from Mr Makaram, who also guided me a lot to plan my career ahead.
I was fortunate enough to witness Mr. Mohan in action with knee and hip Arthroplasty. His speed and finesse was a thing of beauty to watch. Glad to have learnt from him. I would also like to thank Mr. Hamad and Mr. Shah for teaching the finer details of Hip and knee arthroplasty and arthroscopy.
We also got to meet Dr Hadi and Dr Bokhari and attend many interesting cases of theirs.
I would also like to thank the staff of both the hospitals as they were very helpful and kind to us and made us feel very comfortable and homely during our stay.
I was able to explore the Manchester and Liverpool in the weekends along with mesmerising Lake district. Being a die hard Manchester city fan I was able to witness them in action at Etihad which was an item ticked of bucket list for me.
My flight back was from London allowing me to explore the beautiful city of London .
Overall, it was a great learning experience and would thank Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj and whole ISKSAA team for their effort and time to make us become better surgeons.
