ISKSAA ABERDEEN 2016 FELLOWSHIP
At the outset I thank ISKSAA for providing me an opportunity to learn Shoulder Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty procedures at Aberdeen under Dr. Kapil Kumar. I planned my fellowship for 4 weeks after discussion with Dr Kumar from 1.7.2017 to 2.8.2017. On 1st July, I landed at Aberdeen airport and headed to my accommodation at Woodend Hospital where I met Dr Kapil Kumar and Dr Chirag Bhatia. The weather was very pleasant and the scenic beauty was amazing. We discussed my fellowship programme and local whereabouts in Aberdeen.
I remained with Dr Kapil Kumar during the major part of my fellowship atWoodend, ARI and Albyn Hospital including theatres, clinics and ward rounds. He organizedmy schedule beautifully andI attended theatres for Arthroscopic Rotator cuff repair, Arthroscopic Bankart Repair, Arthroscopic Sub Acromial Decompression, Arthroscopic removal of Calcific Deposits, Arthroscopic Capsular Release and Biceps Tenotomy, Chronic AC joint reconstruction, Total and Reverse total shoulder Arthroplasty. Apart from Shoulder Surgeries, I attended theatres for Ulnar Nerve Decompression, Carpel Tunnel Decompression, Dupuytren’sFasciectomy, Distal Radius Distraction using Wrist fusion LCP, Ankle Fusion using Phoenix system, THR, TKR, Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty, Dynamic Hip Screw etc. The surgery quiet unique and exciting for me was Distal Humerus Replacement in a comminuted distal humerus fracture.
Dr. Kapil Kumaris aenergetic person and enthusiastic teacher, he provided me with explanations to all my doubts and questions. He made sure that I had no trouble during my stay in Aberdeen and took us out for outings on various occasions. I will always remember the coffee sessions we used to have in Albyn Hospital, his meticulous style of clinical shoulder examination and trademark drawing of shoulder joint.
The understanding and knowledge of diagnosing shoulder pathologies, preoperative planning and surgical tricks has enhancedmy clinical skills and outlook towards shoulder related issues. I really loved the time I spent at Aberdeen and met Dr Chirag Bhatia who is just like a younger brother to me. He made my stay homely and worth remembering. At last, I would again like to thank Dr Pushpinder Bajaj, Dr Lalit Maini, Dr Kapil Kumar and team ISKSAA for giving such a wonderful opportunity.
Best Regards,
