ISKSAA EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS
ISKSAA EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY TRAVELLING HIP AND KNEE ARTHROPLASTY AND ARTHROSCOPY FELLOWSHIP, WRIGHTINGTON UK (16th July 2017 - 5th August 2017) UNDERPROF. RAJ MURALI - REPORT
I am highly obliged to ISKSAA for providing me the opportunity to travel and observe as a Fellow in the Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy unit at Wrightington hospital UK. I sincerely want to thanks Prof. PushpinderBajaj Sir and Prof. Lalit Maini Sir for bestowing upon this opportunity. As it was my first International fellowship in Orthopaedics, I was highly excited for it. After learning that I have been selected for a fellowship at John Charnley institute, I was so happy.
As I was travelling abroad for the first time, I was not sure about the paperwork and VISA formalities. But I have never had to bother about all these paperwork as it was well co-ordinated and worked out. Ms. Julia and Prof. Raj Murali had organized the fellowship programme so meticulously that I had never had any problems. On arriving Wigan, I was provided accommodation nearby Wigan Hospital. It was a nice cozy room with all the facilities. Next day, I had to undergo few occupational health formalities, Prof. Murali helped me in getting all this sorted out, so that I can start my fellowship.
On my first day at the Wrightington Hospital, I was briefed by Prof. Raj Murali who introduced me to all the OT staff and gave me a brief orientation of the campus. Prof. Murali introduced me to Dr. AkashSarogi, he helped me to get acquainted with the hospital OT and OPD. I was very excited to visit the 'Sir John Charnley' museum and considered privileged to be learning the various techniques at the very birthplace of modern Hip surgery.
During my 3 week stay, I met, discussed and exchanged ideas with the consultants of respective field. As I was more inclined in learning Revision Arthroplasty, I used to prepare my calendar and visit the theatres accordingly. All the professors were more than helpful in discussing and guiding us with their surgeries while performing them. I was exposed to the high volume Arthoplasty and Arthroscopy Units wherein we observed plenty of primary TKR, THR, Revision TKR, Revision THR, Knee and shoulder Arthroscopy procedures. By the end of every day, I used to be overwhelmed by the academic overexposure at the hospital.
I was also privileged to be allowed to attend the weekend Mch Classes at the campus which included lectures and hands - on workshop on bone models along with other Mch students.
My sincere thanks to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj sir, Dr. SanjeevAnand, Dr. Lalit Maini, Prof. Dr. Raj Murali and ISKSAA team for providing and organizing this awesome once in a lifetime experience.
I am highly obliged that ISKSAA selected me to enhance my arthroplasty and arthroscopic skills in my day to day practice.
To summarize, I gained whole new set of operative skills, treatment protocols and knowledge which has helped me in becoming a more mature Orthopaedic surgeon.
Thanking you,
Regards,
