I am incredibly grateful to have been selected for the prestigious ISKSAA Birmingham Patellofemoral Travelling Fellowship from September to October 2024. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj, Dr. Lalit Maini, and the entire ISKSAA team for this amazing opportunity.

As one of three candidates from different regions of India, each of us brought unique experiences and challenges. Our rotation included four hospitals: The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (one of the largest elective orthopaedic surgery centers in the UK), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (the largest trauma center in the UK and the largest operating theater complex in Europe), Good Hope Hospital, and Heartlands Hospital, all located in Birmingham.

The fellowship's primary focus was patellofemoral pathologies, guided by our mentor, Mr. Tanveer Ashraf, who is an authority on the subject. I had the opportunity to observe a wide range of patellofemoral procedures, including trochleoplasty, tibial tubercle osteotomies, arthroscopic patella facetectomy, multiligamentous knee injuries, posterolateral corner reconstructions, arthroplasty, and revision arthroplasty procedures with Mr. Ashraf and his team of consultants.

This experience was truly enriching. Mr. Tanveer Ashraf, Mr. Tarek Boutafnouchet, Mr. Tamer Sweed, and Mr. Omar Alanie went above and beyond to ensure our two-week fellowship was informative and enjoyable. They even organized a symposium covering patella dislocations, complex osteotomies, and complex trauma around the knee. We were also allowed to assist for close clinical observation in most cases. Throughout our stay, every team member made us feel included, treating us as part of their group and involving us in interdepartmental discussions and pre-operative planning.

Overall, I am thankful to ISKSAA for providing me with a remarkable opportunity to learn a great deal in a short period. This fellowship has been enriching, offering invaluable insights I will apply in my practice. I highly recommend this fellowship to anyone interested in knee surgeries.
