I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to undertake this ISKSAA travelling fellowship at the Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospital - where Total Hip Replacement (THR) was pioneered by Professor Sir John Charnley in the 1950s and 1960s.When you walk down the lanes, corridors and OT of this iconic hospital, you can experience the great work being done here and why it is so respected and one of the highest tertiary care centres for Joint Replacement surgery.

First of all, I would like to thank ISKSAA and Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj (President) and Prof. Lalit Maini (Chairman) for giving me this golden opportunity . And I would also like to thank my mentor, Prof. Raj Murali & Dr. Puneet Monga for guiding us through this 2 week fellowship programme.

Prof. Raj Murali is a very kind hearted gentleman who is ready to help you and guide you through this journey. He actively ensured we had access to all Learning opportunities, often coordinating across departments to have us exposed to a wide range of upper limb and lower limb procedures.

Dr. Puneet Moga helps us a lot and is a very sober, polite gentleman who does his work in a calm and perfect way with a meticulous planning of each case. We were able to witness some of his great work in Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty, Revision case of shoulder arthroplasty using customised implants, Shoulder Scopy and Latarjet procedure for Shoulder instability.

We also witness a lot a lower limb Arthoplasty cases during the 2 week programme. We h ave seen around 80 case of primary hip and knee case, 20 case of revision and complex hip and knee cases and Robotic knee surgeries.Complex case of hip failure was with 6 times failure was revised again by Prof Anil Gambhir & Prof Henry Wynn Jones . It was a very challenging case but in their expert hand it look just normal , using megaprosthesis and customise implant for acetabulum and femur it was beautifully done. There were around 4-5 such complex revision cases being done.

Dr. George Pavlov performing cases of Revision TKR, complex and primary TKR and Dr. Simon Barton doing Unicompartmental Knee using Mako Robot was fantastic. The OT staff and the nurses are all very helpful. The MCH fellow Dr. Murtaza z Hadermota and Dr. Shailendra Singh were quite helpful to us. The fellowship was extremely well organized allowing us to plan and observe diverse range of cases Daily OT shedules were shared in advance, ensuring structured observation.Overall it was an eye-opening experience for me to come and work here in one of the world premiere centre of excellence for Joint Replacement Surgery. I would like to recommend every Arthroplasty surgeon to at least have a brief experience at this Iconic Hospital.I extend my sincere thanks to Dr Pushpinder Bajaj, Prof Lalit Maini and the entire ISKSAA Team for this exceptional Learning platform.
