ISKSAA DELHI 3 MONTHS FELLOWSHIP 2022

Respected sir,

I am writing this testimonial to share my experience in Delhi where I got the opportunity to work as a clinical fellow under Dr Pushpinder Singh Bajaj sir during the winter of 2022. I am Dr Devanshu Gupta from Mysore. I did my MS from Grant government medical college, Mumbai and was working as a Senior resident in LTMMC, Sion hospital, Mumbai. I finished my tenure as a senior resident and joined the very next day in Delhi to work under him. I found Dr. Bajaj to be an extremely humble, disciplined and selfless human being apart from being an excellent Orthopaedic surgeon. My orientation towards treating and attending to patients has changed drastically after working under his guidance. I picked up many fine skills by observing him which I feel are priceless and will go a long way in shaping my career.

Learning which patient to operate on and which patient to conserve is always a dilemma for any surgeon, and no person can gauge this better than Bajaj sir. One of the best things was that the surgeries were always scheduled early in the morning when one is fresh and ready to take on the day. His Preoperative and postoperative protocols have been in place for years and are being followed meticulously. The whole OT staff and team are very well trained and are prepared before he arrives. The decorum which is maintained inside the OT when he operates is something I will always remember. He explains every step while operating and keeps you in the loop throughout the surgery. Looking beyond what the radiograph shows and customising the treatment as per the individual need of the patient is another pearl of wisdom that I've learnt from him. Respecting soft tissues is what we young surgeons lack and assisting him expands your horizons. Witnessing OPD procedures with him gave me the confidence to manage and understand the value of conservative orthopaedics. Right from radiological imaging to the Physiotherapy section, everything is under one roof. His team is outstanding and everyone is very helpful and warm. Special thanks to Bharat, Meghraj and Vicky who made me feel at home and helped in managing OT as well. You really can learn a lot from them. Also, thanks to Dr Ovesh, Physiotherapist who is always keen on making you understand the rehabilitation protocol.

To conclude, I would say that more than learning Orthopaedics, I learnt the importance of being a good and practical doctor. The importance of having a strong backbone team in any surgeon's career to move forward is the most necessary step. I am definitely imbibing and taking with me the protocols for treating patients. I am really blessed to share these days with you sir and have become wiser under your guidance. Also, I have learnt a lot from your team sir - Bharat, Dr Ovesh, Meghraj, Vicky, Dr Ashish sir, Anuradha mam, Joce and everyone. What we learn is evidence-based medicine, but what I have learnt is the importance of EVIDENCE-BASED LIFE.

Warm regards,
Dr Devanshu Gupta
