ISKSAA Delhi Travelling Fellowship 2022

TRAVELING...LEARNING...UPGRADING…

I am Dr (Lt Col ) Ajit Bhaskarwar. In ISKSAA-2022 fellowship program, I got selected for Delhi traveling fellowship under Dr Maini. I along with Dr Kadam joined the fellowship program on 26 Jun 23 after consultation with Dr Maini sir. Sir had already coordinated with various renowned orthopaedicians/ Centers in Delhi with a primary focus on knee and shoulder arthroscopy, hip & knee arthroplasty as well as robotic knee arthroplasty.

The schedule of fellowship consisted of visiting a center every day; depending upon the number and variety of cases planned for surgery at that center. Time, place, and the contact person’s details were informed to us well in advance by Maini sir which has helped in planning the travel.

The planning done by Maini sir was very thorough considering our interest in the field of arthroplasty and arthroscopy. During these two weeks, we visited various well-known hospitals in Delhi such as Fortis Vasant Kunj, AIIMS,MAMC, ARTEMIS, APOLLO, SPINAL INJURY CENTRE, SPORTS INJURY CENTRE, MAX HOSPITAL, SPH etc. All of them were very busy hospitals with an extensive OT list. Surgeons at these hospitals were excellent in their field. They were interested in demonstrating and explaining their way of doing various complex surgeries.

Each day was a new learning experience. The contact person used to convey to us the OT list as well as the preoperative planning one day prior. Surgeons have shared their experiences, difficulties, and challenges faced during the phase of learning. We could observe different kind of surgeries every day. The variety of cases consisting of primary TKR, UKR , complex TKR, primary as well as revision THR, primary and revision ACL, PCL reconstructions, Arthroscopic Bankart’s repair, rotator cuff repair, robotic TKR ( Meryl and Striker). Surgeons have explained the routine steps of surgeries as well as the different method which they follow.

This traveling fellowship has helped in exploring and understanding the different and feasible ways and tricks in arthroplasty and arthroscopy.

I would like to thank ISKSAA team, Dr Maini Sir and Dr Bajaj Sir for providing this excellent opportunity. I would also like to thank Dr Gurinder Bedi, Dr. Vijay, Dr. IPS Oberoi, Dr. Kharabanda, Dr. Harpreet, Dr. Deepak Joshi, Dr. Ramneek Mahajan, Dr. Shrivastava for taking out time for teaching us and making this fellowship an excellent learning experience.
