ISKSAA BOA TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2022
Fellowship Report ISKSAA - British Orthopaedic Association Fellowship under
Dr. Sanjeev Anand September 2022 | Leeds & Birmingham, United Kingdom
I had the distinct privilege of being selected for the prestigious fellowship offered by ISKSAA and The British Orthopaedic Association under the mentorship of renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Anand. This enriching academic and clinical experience began with my participation in the BOA Annual Conference held in Birmingham , UK in September 2022. The conference was a stellar platform for learning, offering in-depth discussions on cutting-edge advancements in orthopaedic surgery. It brought together some of the finest minds in the field and featured high-quality scientific content, making it a truly outstanding academic experience. Following the conference, I proceeded to leeds for a two-week observership, with accommodation provided at St. James Hospital, which was both comfortable and convenient. The observership was primarily based at Chapel Allerton Hospital, where I had the opportunity to observe wide range of elective surgeries. These included arthroscopy, meniscal repairs, primary knee joint replacements, recurrent patella dislocation procedures, MPFL reconstructions, and revision ACL surgeries. Working closely with Dr. Sanjeev Anand was an invaluable experience. Beyond the operation theatre, I had the golden opportunity to attend clinics with him. His methodical approach to history-taking, diagnostic precision, attention to detail, and above all, his compassion towards patients, left a lasting impression on me and set a benchmark in clinical excellence. I also had the opportunity to interact with senior consultants Dr. Ram and Dr. Witnell, whose clinical insights and mentorship further enriched my learning. One of the highlights of the fellowship was attending a hands-on cadaveric course on knee ligament injuries at the Arthrex Lab. The course was impeccably organized and undoubtedly among the best cadaveric training programs globally. It significantly enhanced my understanding of ligament reconstruction techniques. While weekdays were intellectually and professionally stimulating, the weekends offered a refreshing contrast. I had the chance to explore the vibrant city of London and even attended a football match at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester making the experience personally memorable as well. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Lalit Maini and Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj for facilitating this opportunity and supporting my professional development through this fellowship. This experience has not only broadened my clinical acumen but also strengthened my commitment to delivering world-class orthopaedic care.
