I Reached Adelaide on October 19 early morning at 8.am after my flight journey. A warm welcome was given by Mr. Donald. He took me to the belair house. He was so kind and helpful in all the aspects. We went to near by big supermarket coles in blackwood. I took rest on oct 20th. Belair supermarket was around 1.5 – 2 kms distance from 17, laffers road. In belair super market vegetables, milk and other eatable items is available. Most important is that we will get a Metro card and we can recharge our metro card in this super market. So friends this is very important and u can plan your travel from belair to any place in city. Kindly get a 3 G SIM FROM TELSTRA service. it was very helpful and cheap. The ticket charge for the travel in metro will be valid for 2 hrs of duration. We can use our card for next 2 hrs without any charge in bus, train and train.”
On oct 21st I met a great human being, lovable partner from Lucknow Dr. Amit singh. Mr. Donald took us to repatriation hospital and we met Mr. Nicholas In IMRI. We had a great discussion with him. Mr. Donald took us to Repat OT and introduced us to OT staff. We saw Bilateral Total knee replacement done by Dr. Middleton and Dr. Mercer. It was my first case of simultaneous bilateral TKR. I could see a case of revision THR in another OT. Mr. Donald took us to Adelaide city s biggest mall for our purchase.
Oct 22nd we reached Repat hospital at 7.30 am, we could see arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, bioscrew fixation of OCD of medial femoral condyle and diagnostic s knee scopies. It was done by Dr. Liptak . He taught the practical things very nicely.
Oct 24th we again came to Repatriation hospital with Prof Jegan Krishnan, we could see multiple shoulder cases ,we had an opportunity to see reverse shoulder arthroplasty beautifully done by Prof. Jegan Krishnan.
OCT 25th We went to SPORTSMED SA. It was very well equipped and maintained hospital. We met a young and active sports surgeon Dr. Nick Wallwork. He performed many shoulder and knee scopies in a single day. He was teaching us with great interest. He was very active in performing the cases and a skilled surgeon. We could see reverse shoulder arthroplasty done for different indication. The indication was 3Part old proximal humerus fracture. After the sports med OT we went to king william street for hat purchase at rundle mall. We could purchase some Indian food items from Adelaide central market Indian spice shop.
During our weekend we went to victor harbor and Maclaren valley. It was a great trip and we could visit one of most beautiful place with very well maintained beach. We had a chance to taste a world famous Maclaren valley Hardy’s wine. We reached city at 5.30pm. Oct 27th we took a local metro bus service from our place to Cleland wild park. In Cleland wild park we enjoyed our trip and we could see kolas, kangaroo. We took many photos and video with those beautiful animals. After our wild park visit we could reach our place safely through metro service economically.
Again on oct 28th we started our OT observership in Repat hospital. We saw cases of TKR and THR. We could learn various technical tips and we saw instruments used for revision cases.
Oct 29th we went to Repat hospital with Dr. Nick Wallwork. He did interesting cases on that day. We saw Arthroscopic bankart and open stabilization, ulnar shortening osteotomy done for malunited radius with new technique and instrumentation. He did multiple DIP joint fusion with memory shape implants. we saw gluteus medius avulsion occurred after THR following Harding’s approach. Avulsion fixation was performed with anchor sutures done by Dr. Chris Wilson.
Oct 30th we were posted in Ashford hospitals with Dr. Jegan Krishnan. It was long and interesting day for us to see variety of cases. OT started sharply at 8.00am with fast and very well organized and maintained Operative time. We could see different cases like Navigation TKR, Shoulder scopies, 2 Cases of biceps distal tendon rupture repaired with endobutton and interference screws. Prof. Jegan krishnan showed many interesting cases and operative techniques. We could see well organized surgeon, Anaesthetist and OT staff.
Oct 31st we went to Repat hospital and observed various cases like knee arthroplasty, knee scopy done for ACL tear. We were with Dr. Ling who taught us various technical guidance.
Nov 1st we went to sports med SA. We saw couple of shoulder arthroscopy, SLAP repair, Carpal tunnel release, Elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair. After the case Dr. Amit left the city. I met Dr. Jai Rawat and Dr. Chetan Sood. They took me to nice Thai restaurant and we had a tasty dinner.
Nov 2nd I prepared for my return to India and packed my things. I had a great and enjoyable Diwali evening with Prof. Jegan Krishnan Family. I had a chance to interact with many new friends. It was a great moment and enjoyable day.
Nov 3rd Early Morning Mr. Donald Dropped me in Airport.
Suggestions: For FELLOWS
- My dear friends please go through the report given by Dr. Karthik. It will give good idea about your routine activities.
- Please purchase your metro card on day one. That will make your entire trip easy
- Plan your purpose of visit and convey the case required to observe during your fellowship program. They will arrange according to your requirement.
- Make a note of your surgical tips and have video record of some interesting cases. Before that please get a permission from the operating surgeon.
- Have a visit to hospital setup and observe the other facilities of hospital. It will give u good guidance to improve our patient care.
For IMRI:
- Please ask the fellows to send their field of interest and requirement to learn. This will make the coordinator to plan the program prior to arrival of the fellows.
- Please give a PPT Presentations about the purpose, schedule of this fellowship program and about Adelaide city to the new fellows. It will help them to plan their program.
- Take the fellows to your research department and give idea about your research and motivate them to involve in research.
- Please make some party to have interaction with the surgeons
- Please ask the fellows to participate in clinical department discussion
- Please give feedback form and ask them to submit at the end of this program.
- Please extend the period of travelling fellowship program.
