ISKSAA DELHI TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP REPORT 2016

At first I would like to thank Dr. Pushphinder Bajaj and Dr. Lalit Maini for providing me this opportunity of prestigious Delhi travelling fellowship programme of 2 weeks which helped me to gain knowledge regarding arthroscopy and various surgical skills in this field & interact with the different experts in number of instituitions.

Our stay was arranged at Maulana Azad Medical College guest house where we were welcomed by Dr. Lalit Maini and met my other two Fellows Dr. Achin from Maharashtra and Dr. Rajeev from Punjab. Both of them were very cooperative and supportive all through my fellowship. A pick up and drop facility was available for us for going to the various instituitions.

We have attended two conferences during our fellowship

1). We attended a shoulder course followed by workshop atINDIAN SPINAL INJURY CENTRE

2). Advanced knee course at Sir gangaram hospital where we learnt about Paediatric ACL reconstructions and revision ACL reconstruction with through workshops and demonstrations. It was a great session

We also visited several hospitals during our fellowship

1.SPORTS INJURY CENTRE where we observed and assisted the cases of Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, Rotator cuff tear and Bankart repair with Dr. Deepak Choudhary and Dr. Deepak Joshi.

2. AIIMS where we met Dr C. S. Yadav. That day we saw cases of 3 THR, 4TKR and 1 HIGH TIBIAL OSTEOMY. This session was very interesting as well as informative too.

3.ARTEMIS HOSPITAL GURGAON with Dr. IPS OBEROI. Here we saw Arthroscopic ACL reconstructions and hip and knee replacements which was followed by table discussions where we asked our queries and he cleared our doubts. That was very useful session.

4.GANGARAM HOSPITAL where we were received by Dr. Prateek Gupta. There we saw cases of arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgeries followed by teaching session.

Later again we got to visit sir GANGARAM HOSPITAL, This time we were guided by Dr. V.B. Bhasin who was very ingenious and he showed us his few invented instruments too. Then we saw case of LATAEJET PROCEDURE for recurrent shoulder dislocation and a case of arthroscopy for knee stiffness.

5. INDRAPRASTHA APOLLO HOSPITAL. We were warmly greeted by Dr. RAJU VAISHYA & Dr. KHARBANDA. They were very generous and humble. Dr. Raju showed us technique of doing TKR with 3D printing and custom made zigs. Dr. Kharbanda, very nice person discussed every single step of knee replacements with logical explanation and reasoning. We got to learn many new and minute things from him. And that was a very informative session.

6. FORTIS HOSPITAL Vasant kunj where we accompanied Dr. GURINDERBEDI. He was very energetic person who showed us some poweroint presentations featuring recent advances and concepts followed by B/L TKR ,Coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction using tight rope and semi T.


We visited FORTIS hospital again under the guidance of Dr. DHANANJAY GUPTA. We saw 2 TKR followed by discussions.

7.SANTPARMANAND HOSPITALwhere wewere welcomed by Dr. SHEKHAR SRIVASTAV & Dr. SHEKHAR AGRAWAL. There we assisted 1 ACL AVULSION FIXATION & 4 TKRs

8. INDIAN SPINAL INJURY CENTRE where we were guided by Dr. DEEPAK RAINA. Here we saw 3 THR, 2TKR, 1 PELVIS FRACTURE FIXATION & 1 HEMIARTHROPLASTY HIP followed by a long discussion on variety of cases. That was veryknowledgeable and useful session indeed..

9.SAFDARJUNG HOSPITAL where we initiated our day with SHOULDER ARTHROSCOPIC BANKART REPAIR followed by a case of open Rotator Cuff & then ARTHROSCOPIC SUBCROMIAL DECOMPRESSION. After that we met Dr. PUSHPHINDER BAJAJ at his clinic who gave us the opportunity to practice arthroscopy on dry knee model. It was a great pleasure meeting him.

Finally I would like to say that it was a very overwhelming experience for me to personally observe the experts of their field and assist them and learn a lot of things from them. Once again I would like to thanks the ISKSAA TEAM to give us this opportunity to grow. A special thanks to Dr. PUSHPHINDER BAJAJ & Dr. LALIT MAINI granting me this fellowship programme . All in all it was an incredible learning experience to me.
