ISKSAA LEICESTER TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2019
I am really thankful to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj and Dr. Lalit Maini for having selected me for the ISKSAA - Leicester Fellowship 2019 training which has paved a way into the construction of my arthroscopic & arthroplasty knowledge, surgical skills and clearing of many doubts in this field. This fellowship was organised by Dr. Pandey, Head of Department, Orthopaedics, NHS Hospital Leicester.. The overall cases we had in the list were
- Total hip arthroplasty - unilateral and bilateral
- Total knee arthroplasty - unilateral and bilateral
- Revisiontotal knee arthroplasty
- UNI knee replacement
- Hemiarthroplasty
- ACL reconstruction using various constructs
- MPFL Reconstruction
- Arthroscopic meniscus repair
- Reverse Shoulder arthroplasty
- Mini incision open massive rotator cuff repair
The fellowship was conducted during December 2019.
On arriving at Leicester, Dr. Pandey, gave us a very warm welcome. The next day we reached hospital and were introduced to the hospital staff. The entire team at NHS Leicester, were nice and extremely helpful in making us feel comfortable throughout the fellowship period.
Dr. Pandey had organised this fellowship program, in a manner, where we could see a wide spectrum of cases being operated, which was a perfect way to spend the fellowship programme effectively.
Of particular interest to me were the surgeries of knee arthroscopy and soft tissue ligament reconstructions, repair of massive tears of the rotator cuff, revision ACL reconstruction, and joint replacement surgeries.
We also spent half a day at a peripheral clinic, to observe, how out - patients were being managed and treated. We were thoroughly impressed on the diagnosing skills of Dr. Pandey.
During our fellowship period, we were able to clear so many of our doubts with the esteemed faculty at NHS Leicester, and they were all very kind enough to do so.
During our free time, we would tour the Leicester city and its suburbs, for some sightseeing and shopping.
I would say that I feel more enlightened and more confident in dealing with orthopaedic problems, after having learnt so much during this fellowship, for which I am once again thankful to Dr. Pandey and organisers of ISKSAA.
