Firstly I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj, Dr. LalitMaini, Dr. IPS Oberoi, Dr. RajuEaswaran and prof. S. Rajasekaran, Dr. S. R. Sundarrajan for providing me the opportunity to learn and develop my knowledge and skill in the orthopaedic subspecialty of arthroscopy through the ISKSAA SICOT GANGA FELLOWSHIP.
Ganga hospital needs no introduction as it is one of the best orthopaedic institutions all over the world. My mentor Dr. S. R. Sundarrajan needs no introduction as he is much popular in the world of Arthroscopy, Foot and ankle . From the first day I started to assist in arthroscopy cases. The day at the hospital starts by 7:00 in the morning with first arthroscopy case ready for incision by that time. Usually there would 7-8 cases of arthroscopy and 3-4 foot and ankle cases on all OT days. On average the monthly census ranges from 130 to 150. I witnessed all varieties of arthroscopy cases including ACL, PCL reconstruction, ACL avulsion, PCL avulsion and Multiligamentous knee injuries. Actually I did my 1 year arthroscopy fellowship in one of the renowned orthopaediccentre in Chennai but in my fellowship period I have assisted only one case of PCL with PLC reconstruction. In the short span of 3 weeks in Ganga hospital I have seen 7 cases of PCL with PLC reconstruction and 1 case of MCL reconstruction. The theatre is equipped with video recording facility from which we can retrieve surgical video of interesting cases. I was impressed by the work in theatre where every staff knew his job and carried out the same with sincerity and ease.
I felt really lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from Dr.S.R.Sundarrajan who with his skill, speed and accuracy made sure the outcome of the surgery was perfect and nothing less. He taught me the techniques to finish surgeries in a quick and perfect way. I could stop him anywhere to clear my doubts and he was always ready with the convincing answer and made sure that my query was answered before proceeding with the surgery. During the course of fellowship I was able to assist him in about 50 ACL and observe in about 40 cases in total which helped me gain in depth knowledge in managing arthroscopy cases. One added advantage during my fellowship is assisting for lot of foot and ankle cases too. I would like to thank the anaesthetists, theatre staff, ward staff and doctors for helping me during my entire period of fellowship.
I am immensely thankful for the kindness and hospitality of Prof. S. Rajasekaran and Dr.S.R.Sundarrajan whose warm reception make anyone feel very ease. Thank you Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj and the entire ISKSAA team for providing me the opportunity.
With regards
