ISKSAA FORTIS DELHI FELLOWSHIP 2022
Respected Sir,
I am honored to prepare this report about ISKSAA - Fortis Delhi fellowship for the year 2022, which I have completed at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, Delhi. I would like to thank Dr. Lalit Maini and Dr Pushpinder Bajaj for giving me an opportunity for the same.
I completed the 2 weeks fellowship along with my co-fellow Dr Saurabh Bansal in the month of February 2023. It was indeed a great opportunity to meet Dr Gurinder Bedi, Dr Vishwa Deep Sharma & Dr Shuvendu Roy. The goals of this fellowship for me were to orient myself to different orthopedic surgeries offered at Fortis Vasant Kunj, understand the key aspects of the surgical procedures and grasp the means & methods used to run an orthopedic practice at such a busy center. Coming from a government setup where our orthopedic practice is radically different from the private setup, this was a novel experience for me.
During the two weeks I spent at Fortis, Vasant Kunj, Dr Bedi ensured I got the maximum operating time in the OR. Coupled with a very astute sense of teaching, he was always encouraging me to ask myself about what, when & how is the surgical plan taking shape. His interactions with us as regards surgical planning pre-operatively, surgical techniques intra-operatively & discussion regarding post op complications, were a treat for the mind.
The other faculty, viz. Dr VDS (as he is fondly called) & Dr Shuvendu, were excellent in their respective areas of expertise. I have hardly seen anyone as skilled as Dr VDS in arthroscopy and Dr Shuvendu in trauma to date. Watching them in action was a delight.
I observed TKRs, Primary & Revision THRs, Arthroscopies of Knee and Shoulder, Trauma and Reconstructive Surgeries. Fortis Vasant Kunj is quite a busy center with a wide variety of exposure to various Orthopedic Cases.
I shall surely not forget the wonderful Saturday morning clinical discussions with the team, the constant teaching & mentoring by Dr Bedi during surgeries, superb arthroscopy skills of Dr VDS & the cool headedness of Dr Shuvendu in difficult & complicated cases. It was a wonderful experience and one to cherish for life. The entire team took us in their wing, and I am sure I can always count on them for any support in the years to come.
I would again like to thank Dr Lalit Maini and Dr Pushpinder Bajaj for giving me this opportunity and I eagerly look forward to more such opportunities at upcoming ISKSAA Fellowship programmes.
