ISKSAA FORTIS ISIC TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP
First of all I was thankful to Dr. Lalit Maini and Dr. Pushpnder Bajaj for considering me for the ISKAA, Delhi Fortis Fellowship.
At ISKSAA interview it was a great interaction with Dr. Bajaj and Dr. Maini both of them suggesting me for this fellowship after seeing my interest in the field of joint replacement and arthroscopy. As I have already availed a great experience and exposure in the same at Birmingham, UK before, it was a good experience in observing and interacting with the Indian giants in the field of joint reconstruction and arthroscopy, with this aim in my mind I ventured the 2 weeks fellowship at Fortis Hospital, Vasantkunj and ISIC, New Delhi.
Of course I have got a wonderful friend Dr. Anoop Raj, my co-fellow during this short stay. He is an excellent guy always ready to learn and explore and of course very much compatible, both of us have experienced a very good time during the fellowship.
We have become a great fan of Dr. Gurinder Bedi after his commitment, dedication and caringness towards his fellows. During this fellowship even much before this, he was very careful in each interaction (by e-mail and telephonic) to find the best of comfort and ease for both of us. Even he suggested the accommodation at a place which was midway between both ISIC and Fortis vasantkunj. We were very happy to visit both the centres by walking from the stay home (Oyo hotel) throughout the period.
On the day of arrival and after checking in the hotel, both of us visited ISIC first to meet Dr. Bhushan Naraini. It was a great interaction to see him in his OPD. He was very sober and polite towards his patients even he was assisting the senior citizens coming in and out of his chamber with a great smile. Really we have a token of appreciation for this man and the art of dealing with patients might be examplifying for all of us. His warm welcome to both of us on first day made us comfortable for more and more interaction in next couple of weeks. Basically we spent most of our fellowship period with Dr. Bhushan at ISIC OT, scrubbed and assisted in his OT. Really it was a friendly ambience. Thanks to Dr. Shivam and Dr. Kulgourav and OT staffs for caring and considering us a part of their OT during that period. We assisted around 10 to 11 cases each day, mostly Unilateral and bilateral TKR and a few THR. Apart from this we also assisted quite a good nos of trauma cases, acetabular and arthroscopy of knee and ankle.
In the meantime I could not resist myself in appraisal of Dr. Deepak a wonderful surgeon and cheerful person. We enjoyed most of his OTs seeing and assisting THR, a couple of Radial head replacements and a couple of Ankle arthrodesis. Really we learned a lot regarding tips and tricks in THR from Dr. Deepak. Apart from this we also had a good exposure over spine after interacting with two eminent spine consultants at ISIC. Thanks to Dr. Bibhu and Dr. Kali, regarding clarification of fundamentls in spine with their valuable advice and approach to spine patients clinical evaluation.
Regarding Dr. Gurinder Bedi, What awonderful and cheerful man we have ever interacted with. He welcomed us with a cheerful gesture and took every care of us during the stay of Fortis hospital during the couple of weeks. He introduced us to Dr. Viswadeep and Dr. Suvendu Roy two of his young and energetic consultants who helped a lot in the learning the tricks of joint Replacement and Arthroscopy.
Dr. Bedi cleared all the formalities regarding our temporary fellow ID at Fortis hospital for easy and hassle free access to every corner of Fortis hospital including OPDs, Indoor so also OT. Even we assisted quite a good no of TKRs, Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction in their OT. Dr. Bedi was very keen to teach us each and every aspect including patients interaction, preparation and indoor procedures so also post operations follow-ups. He had a wonderful personality in dragging up the patient’s love to whom he was in treating of OPD and indoors. We were grateful to Dr. Bedi in arranging a couple of interactive sessions regularly how to study MRI of shoulder, Knee and spine. He was very caring for both of his fellows, even we had quite a few occasion having lunch and dinner together with him. He had advised us to spend much time of ISIC to assist of Dr. Bhushan and as soon as the interesting cases were there, he invited us with prior appointments to teach at Fortis Hospital.
Lastly we are very thankful to Dr. Bajaj and Dr. Maini as they were in constant touch with us in each and every day regarding our satisfactory learning process in the fellowship. Even they have offered to have a small visitation to Sports injury centre and their own private cases during that period. Really we are proud to have mentors as Dr. Lalit and Dr. Pushpinder.
At the end, after a good overall in the field of Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy, Sports medicine and specialised trauma at ISIC, New Delhi and Fortis, Vasantkunj. We returned back with a lot of memories, experience in art of clinical deal and surgical skill, so also heartily assurance by Dr. Gurinder Bedi and Dr. Bhushan to have their support at any time in future.
