ISKSAA - Columbia Fellowship Report – 2014
At the outset, I would like to thank Dr. LalitMaini, Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj and Dr. Ajay Aggarwal for selecting me for this prestigious fellowship. The ISKSAA 2014 conference was an academic treat and the selection process was done in a professional manner. I was selected along with Dr. AshishTaneja from Delhi. It was a good thing that I knew him personally during my residency days at Maulana Azad Medical College. We were in contact with Dr. Maini and Dr Aggarwal after the conference and the dates were decided so as to suit our needs. Dr. Aggarwal guided us very nicely throughout the process and all the necessary paper work was done well before on time.
We started our eagerly awaited journey to Columbia, US on 21st of march 2015 and the fellowship started from 30th of march and continued till the end of April. Dr. Aggarwal also helped us in arranging for local accommodation and travel. He would not hesitate to pick us or drop back whenever required. But the most important aspect was the academic exposure that we got in this fellowship. We were allowed to visit clinics, OR, grand rounds and conferences. We got to see a lot of cases of Hip preservation, hip Arthroscopy, primary and revision hip and knee reconstructions. We were fortunate enough to see a couple of peri-acetabular osteotomies for Hip dysplasia. We were free to visit other theatres to see interesting cases. We were happy to interact with Dr. James Stannard, Dr. James Keeney, Dr. Thomas Aleto and watch them perform surgeries. Dr. Aggarwal constantly motivated us to ask questions and was happy to answer them. He made us understand the concepts of Hip Preservation very well. He was kind enough to take us out social get-togethers and dinners.
I would like rate this fellowship very high for somebody willing to learn the concepts of hip preservation. It would benefit the fellows, if sponsorship can be arranged for this fellowship. Finally, I wholeheartedly thank Dr. Aggarwal, Dr. Bajaj and Dr. Maini for this opportunity.
