ISKSAA IMRI FELLOWSHIP 2018
The IMRI FELLOWSHIP is a very well structured and organised fellowship for practising orthopaedic surgeons like us. We are extremely obliged to ISKSAA and IMRI society for selecting us to attend this prestigious fellowship at Adelaide, SA.
Mr. Nick Kerrison was there at the airport for us to receive us,which was really very comforting and made us feel very safe the moment we reached Adelaide. We were staying in the accommodation arranged for us at Laffer's street, Belair by Prof. Jegan Krishnan. We must say the accommodation was very comfortable and spacious with all available facilities with close proximity to metro station.
Our fellowship schedule was very well planned beforehand and mailed to us before leaving India by IMRI society members and we visited two surgeons in a day at same or different hospitals (first session from 8am to 2pm and second session from 2pm onwards). We visited four hospitals (Ashford, Western, Flinder's Private and Memorial hospitals) between 28th Jan and 22nd Feb 2019.
The surgeons we visited were Prof. Jegan Krishnan, Dr. Mario Penta, Dr. Aman Sood, Dr. Darren Waters, Dr. Meng Ling, Dr. Matthew Liptak and Dr. Sunil Reddy. We had the opportunity to observe arthroplasty and arthroscopy procedures of knee, shoulder and hip mainly during the course of this fellowship. We also were able to see some trauma surgeries also.
The new procedures we saw in Adelaide were robotic-arm assisted TKA, hip arthroplasty by direct anterior approach (DAA), hip arthroscopy, reverse shoulder arthroplasty and uncemented TKR.
Getting to interact and scrub in Reverse shoulder arthroplasty cases, TKA and THA were particularly satisfying experiences for us. We were able to freely discuss the pre-operative planning and post-operative rehabilitation protocolfollowed by different surgeons. We picked up lots of small tips and tricks in routine arthroplasty and arthroscopy procedures which we are sure are going to help us when we go back to our practices in India
We also took the opportunity to tour different places in Adelaide during the weekends. The visit to Cleland National Park and spending the time with the koalas and kangaroos was a very pleasant and satisfying experience.
Prof. Jegan Krishnan was a wonderful and gracious host; he hosted a welcome dinner for us and also enabled us to watch the Big Bash league Cricket match at the famous Adelaide oval which was a wonderful experience.
The icing on the cake was the farewell dinner hosted by IMRI and the presentation of the beautiful framed fellowship certificate which was really overwhelming for us.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Krishnan for his generosity, for taking care of all our needs during our stay here and also to Mr. Nick Kerrison and Mrs. Sarah Sain of IMRI society who were there whenever we needed any help.
We are grateful to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj and Dr. Lalit Maini for guiding us and all the surgeons we visited and interacted in Adelaide from whom we learnt a lot.
Thanks
