FELLOWSHIP REPORT FOR ISKSAA WRIGHTINGTON FELLOWSHIP 2018 UNDER PROF. LENNARD FUNK
I would first of all like to thank Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj, Dr. Lalit Maini and Dr. Sanjeev Anand for providing me this valuable opportunity. The fellowship proved like a blessing in disguise for me as it providing the academic extravaganza I was looking for.
The fellowship provided me a break from the scorching heat here to be greeted by the cool weather in United Kingdom. Wrightington Hospital has been counted as one of the “Centres of Excellence” across the world and I went with high hopes. It boosts of its class care in orthopaedics and avid research activities. ISKSAA tie up with the leading orthopaedicians in United Kingdom like Prof. Lennard Funk, Prof. Trail, Prof Bales and Prof. Raj Murali provides the best opportunities for orthopeadicians in their early stage of career like me and helps us expand our horizons for the best.
My fellowship was for 2 weeks. I was accompanied by my co-fellow Dr. Anshul Dahuja with whom I enjoyed a very good company. ISKSAA Edge Hill University fellows were my very close friend Dr. Robin Bohat and Dr. Karthik who were also posted at the same centre and we all enjoyed a very good company. Prof. Raj Murali and Dr. Krishnaswamy greeted us at the hospital and made us familiar with the hospital and made sure that we had unparalled access to all the operation theatres. The range of surgeries done were wide and included reverse shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopy for complex labral tears, total elbow replacement, biceps tendon reconstruction with allograft, radial head replacement, wrist replacement, metacarpo-phalangeal joint replacement and cubital tunnel syndrome. Prof. Lennard Funk has his own class and skill and it was more than a dream come true to see him operating. The operation theater staff was really kind and helped us a lot.
The fellowship was succeeded by the ISKSAA Leeds Conference which was a wonderful experience and added to our exploring United Kingdom and gaining valuable knowledge. Not to forget, the pre-conference workshops were a great learning experience and the faculty including Prof. P Ginnaoudis sharing their knowledge and skills. The live surgeries, panel discussions and the paper selection topics were simply outstanding. I even got a chance to share my research.
Overall, I had a great learning experience and will certainly help me pursue my long term career goals. I thank ISKSAA with all my might for providing me this worthy opportunity.
Thanking you
