ISKSAA BRADFORD UK TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2024
IN KNEE ARTHROSCOPY, SPORTS INJURY AND ARTHROPLASTY
I am deeply grateful to the ISKSAA organizing committee and fellowship selection board for awarding me the Bradford UK Travelling Fellowship in ARTHROSCOPY & ARTHROPLASTY KNEE AND SPORTS SURGERY under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Stephen Guy from September 30th to October 13th, 2024. Your decision to award me this fellowship has been a significant milestone in my career, and I genuinely appreciate your support.
Bradford, located in West Yorkshire, offers a unique experience, beautiful weather, and convenient transport options connecting it to major cities. This fellowship occurred at the Bradford Royal Infirmary, a renowned institution known for its commitment to high-quality patient care and advanced orthopaedic practices. This institution's unique learning opportunities will intrigue and inspire potential fellowship applicants.
Mr. Stephen Guy is a highly respected consultant knee surgeon at Bradford Royal Infirmary, specializing in knee arthroscopy and joint replacement. His dedication, professionalism, and approachability made my experience invaluable. From the day we were allotted this short-term fellowship to the day we left Bradford, he was accommodating and friendly throughout the tenure. He helped us go through this course swiftly, showing us around the respective areas and getting us accustomed to the operation theatre environment and practices there.
He is a meticulous surgeon who excels in managing a range of knee pathologies, including sports injuries, trauma, and arthritis. His expertise in knee arthroscopy is well recognized, and he runs a specialized clinic that attracts referrals from across the UK and beyond.
During my fellowship, I had the opportunity to observe various advanced procedures, including MPFL reconstruction, unicondylar knee replacements, Meniscus repair, preserved insertion ACL reconstruction, LET repair procedure, and total knee replacements. I also worked with other surgeons at Bradford Royal Infirmary, which included observing hip replacements, knee revision arthroplasties, and trauma surgeries. All the surgeons were very inviting and happy to let us observe their operative techniques. The insights I gained from Mr. Guy's innovative approach to knee surgery will undoubtedly enhance my clinical practice, especially how he manages all the arthroscopic surgeries with the fewest assistant surgeons. Along with observing surgeries, we also had the opportunity to learn from Mr. Stephen Guy and Mr. Richard Grogan through their presentations and video lectures on recent advances and new techniques.
This fellowship was exceptionally informative and thoughtfully structured, providing comprehensive knowledge about the management of knee conditions. It is so planned that another fellow from one's native country travels along to a foreign nation, which helps one overcome the difficulties you might be facing alone when overseas in a city you are visiting for the first time. I cannot recommend this opportunity highly enough for surgeons interested in knee surgery. My time with Mr. Guy, Mr Grogan, and other surgeons at the Bradford Royal Infirmary has been transformative, and I am excited to apply what I have learned in my future practice.
