Isksaa Edge Hill University Travelling Hip and Knee Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy Fellowship, Wrightington UK (2 Weeks, June 2018) Under Prof. Raj Murali - Report
I am highly obliged to ISKSAA for providing me the opportunity to travel and observe as a fellow in the Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy unit at Wrightington hospital UK, under the leadership of Prof Raj Murali.
My journey started from my selection in the interviews held at ISKSAA meet at Chandigarh, 2017. All the following procedures including visa process and the details of the fellowship were organized and planned meticulously by Prof Raj Murali and his secretary. We were provided accommodation and the location of our residence and the hospital were detailed to us in advance. I was accompanied by my dear friend and colleague, Dr. Robin Bohat.
On our first day at the Wrightington Hospital, we were briefed by our guide, Prof Raj Murali who introduced us to all the OT staff and gave us a brief orientation of the campus. We were excited to visit the ‘Sir John Charnley’ museum and considered ourselves privileged to be learning the various techniques at the very birthplace of modern Hip surgery.
During our 2 week stay, we met, discussed and exchanged ideas with Dr. Nikhil Shah, Dr, Videsh Raut and Dr. Purbach Bodo. All the professors were more than helpful in discussing and guiding us with their surgeries while performing them. We were exposed to the high volume Arthoplasty and Arthroscopy Units wherein we observed plenty of primary TKR, THR, Revision TKR, Revision THR, Knee and shoulder Arthroscopy procedures. By the end of every day, we would be overwhelmed by the academic overexposure at the hospital.
We also met Dr. Anshul and Dr. Naveen Mittal, who were visiting there for upper limb fellowship at the same time. We had a great time together.
We were privileged to be allowed to attend the weekend Mch Classes at the campus which included lectures and hands - on workshop on bone models along with other Mch students.
The 2 week fellowship was followed by the annual ISKSAA meet at Leeds, which was also a wonderful event. Overall, it was an enlightening experience personally and professionally.
My sincere thanks to Dr Pushpinder Bajaj sir, Dr. Sanjeev Anand, Dr. Lalit Maini, Prof Dr Raj Murali and ISKSAA team for providing and organizing this awesome once in a lifetime experience.
I am highly obliged that ISKSAA selected me to enhance my arthroplasty and arthroscopic skills in my day to day practice.
To summarize, I gained whole new set of operative skills, treatment protocols and knowledge which has helped me in becoming a more mature Orthopaedic surgeon.
Thanking you,
Regards,
