ISKSAA SPORTSMED 2017 TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP
First of all thanks a lot to Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj and Dr. Lalit Maini for giving me the opportunity to visit such a prestigious hospital named SPORTSMED, Adelaide, South Australia in August 2018. I attended this hospital with Dr. Pranab Bhattacharya from Guwahati, Assam.
Now let me tell you about the mentor in Sportsmed who is a great surgeon and a greater human being "DR NICHOLAS WALLWORK". He knows the meaning of "Atithi Devo Bhawah". He is an upper limb surgeon with great hands on both Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty of shoulder, elbow, and wrist.
Now few things about our experience. The day started with check-in at Majestic old Lion Apartment, Jerningham street. The place was spacious and at a good location. Dr. NICK paid a visit in evening just to ensure our comfort and an invitation for dinner which we happily accepted. Following morning and every next 14 days DR. NICK used to pick us up from the apartment, take to the hospital and drop back in the evening. We saw different types of surgery in the hospital i.e. shoulder arthroplasty, reverse shoulder arthroplasty, shoulder arthroscopy for rotator cuff repair, sub acromial impingement, elbow arthroscopy, wrist arthroscopy, scaphoid nonunion, 1st carpometacarpel joint interposition arthroplasty. In between we used to go with other surgeons to see knee arthroscopy also. Apart from surgery the things which are must to learn for everyone are their time management skills, OT discipline and behavior with other team members.
About the Adelaide, its a city we fell in love with on the very first day. People are amazingly helpful, always greeting you on eye contact. City is as clean as we see in movies.
The learning and the feelings I got from this fellowship are not limited to the surgical skills only but beyond it. Hope I could give OUR COUNTRY few things which takes it ahead.
Thankyou
