ISKSAA DELHI TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP REPORT - 2019
First of all I would like to thank ISKSAA for giving me an opportunity to upgrade my knowledge of arthroscopy and arthroplasty. It was a wonderful experience to be with the best arthroscopy and arthroplasty surgeons in Delhi.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Maini sir for his generosity, for taking care of all our needs during our stay. We must say the accommodation was very comfortable and spacious with all available facilities in Maulana Azad Medical College guest house. He was always there to help us in all regards. We were treated as guests in all the hospitals of Delhi and all the surgeons wholeheartedly shared their techniques and detailed us about every step of the procedures.
We started our fellowship at BLK Hospital where we saw some cases of TKR. Dr. Bhushan Naraini used different implants for every case so it was good to learn about different systems. He discussed about the minor details of the surgery and was ready to clear our every doubt.
Our next day visit was at Sir Gangaram Hospital, here we saw a case of bipolar hemiarthroplasty and one revision TKR. Dr. C S Yadav sir showed us some unique techniques used by him during the surgery. We visited again at the same theatre this time with Dr. Pratik Gupta sir, who showed us a revision ACL reconstruction and Biceps tendon reattachment. The hospitality shown by them was excellent.
For next few days we visited MAMC OT, where we saw variety of cases like THR, TKR, Tendon transfer, Arthroscopic Bankarts and RCT repair, MPFL reconstruction etc. All the faculty of MAMC starting from Dr. Maini Sir, Dr. Vinod Sir(HOD), Dr. Manoj, Dr. Abhishek, Dr. Sumit, Dr. Dhananjay and all the residents treated us with great affection. We would also like to thank the paramedical staff for making us comfortable there. We witnessed different thesis project going on there and learned some new techniques. Even we got to assist one THR and one acetabular fracture plating with Dr. Maini Sir. We again visited MAMC theatre in next week for some more arthroplasty cases.
On Sunday we headed to Max Hospital Saket Hospital to attend a seminar on High tibial Osteotomy. It was a fruitful session where we learned newer things from the masters including renowned Dr. Maheshwari Sir. This concluded our first week of fellowship in no time.
Next day we had a visit at Apollo Hospital Indraprashth with Dr. Raju Vaishya. It was very nice of him that he showed us some of his publication work after demonstrating a case of bilateral TKR. He also took us to his OPD where we observed him examining quite a few patients.
Next day we went to Artemis hospital Gurgaon and met Dr. I.P.S Oberoi Sir. It was a 90 minutes journey from Delhi gate but all the tiredness vanished as soon we met him. He is very polite yet very dynamic personality. We saw three cases of Arthroscopic Rotator cuff repair and a case of menisectomy. We also got the opportunity to visit his OPD and to observe his patients and his follow ups. We had some interactive discussion with regarding the management of some of the cases seen by him during OPD time.
On the last day of fellowship we went to Loknayak Hospital(MAMC) and visited Dr. Lalit Maini Sir in his chamber, where he showed us his work about 3D printing and his ongoing thesis work. We also saw some implants designed by him which were patient specific and prepared after 3D printing of the bone. After having a long chat over breakfast we went back to our room and spent the rest of the day in roaming around.
I thank the ISKSAA team for providing me this opportunity to prepare myself in the field of Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy. This fellowship has boosted my confidence and I look forward to be an active participant of ISKSAA as a student, as a member and as a fellow delegate for continuous learning.
