I am grateful to ISKSAA organizing committee and fellowship selection board to have awarded me Birmingham Patello femoral travelling fellowship under able guidance of Dr. Tanweer Ashraf extending from 29^th October to 09^th November 2018.

Birmingham is second largest city of England and is connected to Delhi by a direct Air India flight. This fellowship involves two separate trust run hospitals namely- Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Royal Orthopedic Hospital. Queen Elizabeth is a tertiary referral centre and is one of the major trauma centers of England while Royal Orthopedic primarily manages elective orthopedics. As these are two different trusts, candidates need to apply and procure clearances from both of them separately. Accommodation has to be self arranged and I chose Airbnb which was cheap and located close to both hospitals. Birmingham has rich network of west midland train and bus services to both institutes

Dr. Tanweer Ashraf is senior consultant knee surgeon at both these institutes with special interest in patello femoral articulation. He is a very polite, humble, dedicated, conscientious surgeon and is always available to assist. He is very methodical and is a perfectionist. He manages all knee trauma (osseous and ligamentous), arthritis and various cartilage pathologies. He runs a patellofemoral clinic at Royal Orthopedic Hospital and receives referrals for patello-femoral problems from all UK and world over. I had an opportunity to attend a patella- femoral master class at Coventry which was attended by patella femoral stalwart from around the world. Dr. Ashraf’s principle to approach a knee patient is an eye opener and will undoubtedly assist me in my clinical practice. Various procedures I observed were femoral trochleoplasty, tibial tuberosity procedures, MPFL reconstruction, ACL repair and Reconstructions, multiligamentous knee injury, total knee replacement, unicompartmental knee replacement and many more.

This course has been very informative, meticulously designed to impart maximum knowledge in 2 to 3 weeks and dealing with all aspects of a knee, especially patella-femoral articulation, patient beginning from history to final execution of the surgical treatment. I could not say enough about Dr. Ashraf as he is incredible. This opportunity should not to be missed by surgeons interested in Knee.
