I would consider extremely fortunate to have been selected for the ISKSAA fellowship 2019 in Ospedale Cervesi, Cattolica, Italy in the subspeciality in which I was very much interested in - shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty. I would like to thank the ISKSAA organization wholeheartedly for giving me this opportunity. I would also take this opportunity to thank entire team of ISKSAA for letting young orthopedicians to visit many places around the world and learn lot of aspects in arthroplasty and arthroscopy.

Having trained in shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty in Italy previously as well, I particularly wanted to visit Cattolica, Italy having known about the place. Ospedale Cervesi is a centre for heavy volume of shoulder patients referred from most of the places in Italy, both primary and revision cases. Being a Government set up too add up to the patient flow. On my first day at the hospital I was warmly welcomed by Ms Patrignani Emanuela, secretary of Orthopedic department. After short visit to hospital premises I met my chief coordinator of the fellowship Dr. Paolo Paladini who invited me to operation theatre. Orthopedic team constituted of excellent group of surgeons headed by Prof. Giuseppe Porcellini. This place is known to render quality services in shoulder pathologies. I was extremely amazed by the volume of shoulder surgeries being done here looking at the statistics. Dr. Paolo Paladiniprogrammed my fellowship in a way to get exposures to maximum number of cases. As a part of intense training in advanced shoulder surgeries, I was able to witness wide range of surgeries including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, SLAP repair, Bankarts repair, remplissage including SCR with patch. Open procedures too were exhilarating to assistwhich included shoulder arthroplasty (both anatomic and inverse), Latarjet, open cuff repair and Eden - Hybenette procedure. It was intense learning and training over the period of two weeks.

Cattolica, Province of Rimini, is a neat heavenly place to visit. Apart from small city as a scenic beauty just on the coast of Adriatic sea, place is full of restaurants with great Italian food. Visiting in winter was my personal choice as I always wanted to visit Italy in winter and therefore weather was not a problem for me inspite of chilling conditions. Though accommodation was relatively far from the hospital, it was always enjoyable to walk to the hospital in lovely weather. In between fellowship it was great visit to nearby places most notably Florence with lot of joy.

Words are less to describe Dr. Paolo Paladini, my fellowship coordinator. He is very approachable, down to earth, energetic, great teacher and meticulous surgeon. I am extremely thankful to him for his timely e-mails and lending all the support to reach Cattolica. Also I am indebted for his teachings throught my fellowship. I am grateful to other members of the team including Prof. Giuseppe Porcellini, Dr. Giovanni Merolla, Dr. MarconSaporito, Dr. Francesco Fauci and Dr. Carlo Alberto Augusti for all the academic inputs. I would also show my gratitude towards my co fellow Dr. Manish Arora from Delhi. It was cherishable good times we all spent together. Entire staff of OspedaleCervesi was friendly and I would like to cherish the spirit of camaraderie and hospitality shown by the entire team of OspedaleCervesi for long time. Overall it was great time during fellowship academically and socially. Dinner at the weekend with entire staff of the hospital was really special moment.

I gained lot during this fellowship in advanced shoulder surgeries which helped me to improvise theoretically and surgically. I can apply knowledge and experience gained during this fellowship at my home town and I am sure lot patients are going to get benefited by this in shoulder problems. Once again I would like show my deepest gratitude to ISKSAA for this priceless opportunity.
