ISKSAA LEICESTER FELLOWSHIP 2016 REPORT
Myself Dr. Archit Agarwal, working as senior resident in ESIC PGIMER, New Delhi had an opportunity to attend Leicester General Hospital, England under the supervision of Mr. R Pandey. It was a great experience. LGH is the biggest of the three hospitals that University of Leicester has, and all the elective surgeries are done here. There are eight orthopaedic theatres running at a time with elective surgeries all around. I had an opportunity to see cases of vast segment from shoulder arthroscopic procedures to ankle arthroscopic arthrodesis. There were several revision knee and hip replacement cases that I witnessed. Overall, Mr. Pandey made sure that we get to see and learn as many different procedures as possible in two weeks’ time. It was very kind of him to introduce us to different consultants every morning before we joined them for theatres. We spent almost 9 hours every-day in the hospital, out of which most was in the theatres.
Leicester practically has everything that an Indian could wish for on foreign soil. I have fond memories of eating great food with Mr. Pandey and my fellow colleague. The place is well connected to London and Birmingham so there is no problem with the transport. Accommodation provided by the hospital was decent for a short stay.
In short, it was worth all the effort and a life time experience.
