Fellowship Testimmonial IMRI Australia 2017
ADELAIDE, AUSRALIA
21st July to 17th August
I would like to thank Dr. Lalit Maini and Dr. Pushphinder Bajaj for providing me this opportunity for pursuing this esteemed fellowship programme in Adelaide, Australia under the guidance of Prof. Jegan Krishnan. This fellowship helped me to enhance and expand various surgical skills about arthroscopy and arthroplasty after my interaction with various orthopaedic surgeons of south Australia who are experts in their field of work.
Upon my arrival in Adelaide, I was picked up from the airport by one of the team members of Prof. Jegan, Mr. Nick. He dropped me to the accommodation provided to me during this fellowship which was fully furnished and at a very nice location with abundant of greenery and a national park just few hundred metres away. I was joined by two other fellows in the same house. We were provided a list of cases posted for coming week in various hospitals like Ashford Private hospital, Flinders Private Hospital, Western Memorial Hospital. The variety of cases on offer were great. We were provided the option of choosing te hospital/surgeon to visit from the list on any particular day. The Surgeons we got to visit included Dr. Mario Penta, Dr. Darren Waters, Dr. AmanSood, Dr. Matthew Liptak, Dr. Sunil Reddy and Dr. Meng Ling apart from the Prof. Jegan himself.
A day before the fellowship started Dr. Jegan invited us to his house for lunch and he made sure that we were comfortable and met each and every surgeon we had to visit during the fellowship programme. He turned out to be a great host as he made sure to know if I was vegetarian and had dishes prepared just for me!
Day 1 of fellowship started with Dr. Prof. Jegan at Ashford hospital and we got to see four primary replacement cases. Two of them being TKR and other two being THR. He made sure that we were explained each and every step he was doing and the rationale for the same. He even discussed about the case after finishing and made sure we didn't have any questions left. The clarity of his thoughts and the skill on show was unmatchable. After the first day our expectations grew and the student in us was feeling very excited for the next thing on the list at new centres.
We visited different centers with different surgeons in the coming few weeks with wide array of procedures ranging from TKR , THR, unicondylar knee replacement, arthroscopic ACL and PCL reconstructions, meniscal repairs, MPFL repair, shoulder arthroscopy like bankart's repair and rotator cuff single and double row repairs. All consultants made us feel at home and took pain to explain the procedures. They gracefully cleared our doubts.
Weekends used to be fun with 2 full days to explore the city of Adelaide. Even though we missed out on the Kangaroo Island tour due to bad weather we made up for that by a trip to Sydney and Melbourne during last two weekends!!!
On the last day a lunch was organized by Prof. Jegan and his team to felicitate us at a seaside restaurant. It was a nice gesture from them.
Overall this fellowship experience will help me to further polish my surgical skills in my day to day practice. The experts taught us openly and thus within short span of time we could incorporate many favourable modifications in our surgical skills and the entire credit goes to ISKSAA and its proficient president and chairman for carrying out this responsibility efficiently.
Once again I would thank Dr. Lalit Maini sir and Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj sir for giving me this splendid opportunity under ISKSAA. I have been benefited by this fellowship tremendously. I hope my association with ISKSAA will flourish and look forward to contribute positively to ISKSAA in future.
