ISKSAA WRIGHTINGTON 2 WEEKS TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP
(FROM 3rd JULY 2017 To 14th JULY 2017)
I would like to begin by thanking Dr. Pushpinder Singh Bajaj, Prof. LalitMaini and Prof. Raj Murali for wonderful opportunity given to me in the form of these two weeks ISKSAA Wrightington fellowship in Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty.
Prof. Raj Murali and Mr. SumedhTalwalkar were extremely helpful in familiarizing me with the hospital and rest of the staff.
There are 2 units in wrightington hospital Upper limb unit and Lower Limb unit. As I have interest in shoulder and knee so 1 week I was posted in upper limb unit and 2nd week in lower limb unit.
It was mixture of both surgical and clinic exposure of how they keep records, do follow- ups, plans for surgery and then execute.
All my doubts right from portal making, anatomic to complex double row rotator cuff repairs, Bankarts repairs, acromioplasty, shoulder release, A-C joint excision and reconstruction, total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, wrist and elbow arthroscopy, distal radius fractures, carpal tunnel release and elbow joint replacements so on and so forth were crystal cleared.
Similary, in lower limb unit got the opportunity to visit SIR JOHN CHARNLEY museum with Mr. BODO PURBACH and got to know the evolution of hip replacement and how it all started. Sat in clinics with Mr.Bodo and saw follow up of hips, which are surviving for 20 – 25 years. I saw knee and hip primary and revision replacement along with distal femoral replacement. I also saw soft tissue surgeries around knee with Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Ben Coupe.
I had a visit to Liverpool and London on the weekends; visit to these places was memorable and mesmerizing experience. I did not face any difficulty as far as food and residence was concern.
To summarize, I gained whole new set of arthroplasty and arthroscopic skills, treatment protocols and knowledge more over how to keep records and follow up patients till the end which has helped me in becoming a more mature surgeon.
At last my sincere thanks to
