ISKSAA Travelling Fellowship Completion Report
Dear Sir,
I extend my gratitude to the ISKSAA committee for granting me the opportunity to be a fellow under
Prof Puneet Monga for two weeks at Wrightington Hospital. The fellowship, spanning from November
7, 2023, to November 20, 2023, proved to be an enriching experience filled with insightful discussions
on various upper limb surgeries.
Upon arrival, Prof Monga and his fellow provided a comprehensive tour of the operation theatre and
wards. I was introduced to the intricacies of the operation theatre on the first day and actively
participated in multidisciplinary team discussions conducted by the shoulder unit weekly.
Over the course of two weeks, I observed a diverse range of surgeries, engaging in interactive
discussions and presentations. Collaborating with other fellows and surgeons facilitated the exchange
of ideas regarding different procedures.
The UK's operating theatre routine provided a valuable learning experience. I witnessed the
meticulous process of patient consent, team meetings between the surgeon, staff nurse, and
anaesthetist, and thorough documentation at each step before surgery.
The fellowship covered a broad spectrum of shoulder and upper limb surgeries, including Reverse
Shoulder Arthroplasty, Anatomical Shoulder Arthroplasty, Rotator Cuff Repair with Superior Capsular
Reconstruction, Biceps tendon avulsion repair, Distal radius fracture fixation with TFCC repair
and various others. I found the detailed discussions on post-operative protocols quite useful and was
amazed to note that many of the procedures were performed on a daycare basis.
Working under Prof Monga's mentorship was a boon, exposing me to diverse surgical techniques and
effective ways to manage complications. It was a comprehensive learning experience for a fortnight,
and I am immensely grateful for the support received.
I highly recommend this fellowship to anyone interested in arthroscopy with a special focus on the
upper limb. The treatment from fellows, junior attendees, and the supportive staff was commendable
throughout the two weeks.
My sincere thanks to ISKSAA for facilitating my fellowship at Wrightington. I look forward to
maintaining my connection with ISKSAA and wish the organization continued success.
Thank you.
Best regards,
