ISKSAA BIOTEK TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIPS
It gives me immense pleasure to write this report about ISKSAA Biotek travelling fellowship at Ahmedabad, Gujrat. At the outset I would like to convey my heartfelt greetings and thanks to ISKSAA and its office bearers on giving me this opportunity to attend this highly academic and beneficial program. It was a one week fellowship program from 12.05.2013 to 19.05.2013 under the supervision of Dr Sanjay Trivedi and Dr Kalpesh Trivedi who besides being highly skilled surgeons bear very impressive personalities.
The thoughtful organization and considerate attitude made the start so suave to ally all my fears and reservations. Every day we used to have open discussion about cases to be operated and surgeries done. Each case we took underwent detailed discussion, interaction and planning. During my fellowship I was fortunate to gain exposure and knowledge of a wide array of shoulder and knee arthroscopy cases and also one case of ACI (Autologus Chondrocyte Implantation). I learnt a lot about the basic principles of arthroscopic surgery. The smooth and speedy execution of a well-planned surgery has apparently questioned my perspective that most arthroscopy procedures (especially cuff repairs) are time-consuming operations.
Dr Sanjay Trivedi and Dr Kalpesh Trivedi were very enthusiastic in ensuring that I get accustomed to the newer setup. They provided individual attention to my learning procedure, taking personal care in teaching, supervising my learning and my comfortable stay during the fellowship. They both demonstrated and taught me very important finer points in ACL reconstruction, Rotator cuff repair and Bankarts repair and also taught me how to achieve optimal post operative outcomes. My discussions with them highlighted the common errors done in these surgeries and how to prevent them.
My special thanks to a person without whom my fellowship would not have completed, my dear friend and co-fellow Dr. Abdul, who supported me in every manner and being senior to me helped me in understanding certain techniques at which I was new at.
Last but not least, I would thank Ms Shweta Patel and Biotek for their constant support right from being selected for the fellowship. The dates for the fellowship were arranged at the common convenience of supervisors and the fellows. The accommodation provided to us too was praiseworthy.
To summarize the overall experience, I gained a whole new set of skills, instructions, treatment protocols and knowledge which has helped me in becoming a more mature surgeon.
