ISKSAA IMRI FELLOWSHIP
At the outset I would like to convey my sincere thanks to Dr Pushpinder Bajaj and Prof Dr Lalit Maini of ISKSAA for this Fellowship. Also I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to Prof Jegan Krishnan for all the help and guidance to make our stay in Adelaide fruitful both in terms of Academic and Social.
The Fellowship preparation started about 2-3 months in advance many thanks to Mr.Nick Kerrison and Daniel Cullen of IMRI who were like our local guardians in Adelaide during our stay. I was lucky to have Dr Chetan and Dr Abhishek as my co fellows during this fellowship. We landed one week ahead of the fellowship and explored the beautiful cities like Gold coast, Brisbane and Sydney. Then we moved to Adelaide where we were given accommodation in the beautiful location near Belair National park.
During this Fellowship we observed nearly 33 TKR's (Including 6 Revisions), 10 THR's (Including 3 Revisions), 42 Knee Arthroscopies, 8 Shoulder Arthroscopies, 3 Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasties, 4 Hip Arthroscopies and 20 other surgeries. We had the opportunity to see a Revision THR using 3D module and also One MPFL reconstruction.
We had the opportunity to assist Prof Jegan Krishnan who made Navigated TKR, RSA and Shoulder scopies look so easy. His time OT time management and team work was amazing. We had the opportunity to observe variety of surgeries done by other consultants like Prof Rudi Jaarsma, Dr Mark Inglis, Dr Liptak, Dr Mario Penta, Dr Jason Ward, Dr David Worsley and Dr Ling of Southern Orthopedics in 4 different hospitals. All the consultants were very kind to share their knowledge and answer all our questions from Pre op planning to post op care in the OT. They also took time to show us important steps during the surgeries.
Every week we had some time allotted for the scientific discussion where we were introduced about Systematic Review. At the end we were able to prepare a protocol for the chosen topic. Special thanks to Miss Annika of IMRI for all the guidance. Prof Jegan Krishnan also made arrangement for us to attend the AOA Southern Australia chapter orthopedic meeting at Baarosa valley.
Prof Jegan Krishnan was very kind to take us to watch a football match in the Famous Adelaide Oval stadium where he also presented us with the team shirt and cap. It was surely a life time experience for me. We had the opportunity to visit and explore Adelaide and Melbourne in weekends. Overall the Fellowship was well organized, well co ordinate and very fruitful. The fellowship has enriched our knowledge in many aspects of Arthroplasty and Arthroscopy which we can adapt in our daily practice to provide better patient care. I would recommend this fellowship for all.
Thank you ISKSAA and IMRI
Regards
Dr Nataraj
