Upper Limb Fellowship, WRIGHTINGTON HOSPITAL, Wrightinghton, UK, Sept 2019.
First of all I would like to thank Dr. Pushpinder Bajaj, Prof. Dr. Lalit Maini and whole ISKSAA team for providing me this valuable opportunity.
My fellowship was of 2 weeks at "Centre of Excellence" Wrightington Hospital from September 9 to 20th, 2019. My co-fellow could not reach in time due to visa issues. Pro.f. Lennard Funk had already arranged my ID and introduced me to almost every consultant. Wrightington hospital has large Upper Limb unit which includes Prof. Raj Murali, Mr. Ian Trail, Mr. MJ. Walton, Mr. P. Monga, Mr. MJ. Hayton, Mr. SC. Talwalkar, Mr. AC Watts.
During my stay I saw lots of reverse shoulder arthroplasty, anatomical shoulder replacement, revision total shoulder replacement, customised reverse shoulder, rotator cuff repair, superior capsular reconstruction, complex labral repair, posterior labral repair, Latarjet , total elbow replacement, radial head replacement, wrist replacement, MCP joint replacement , MCP arthrodesis etc. The operation theatre staff was really kind and helped a lot. I was also helped by another visiting fellow from New Zealand Dr Jennie and long term fellow Dr Hari. I attended some lower limb theatres and saw Mr Bodo Purbach performing original Charnley approach for THR. Mr Bodo was kind enough to take me and 2 other USA fellows to Sir John Charnley museum and gave an elaborate introduction on evolution of THR.
In second week I was accompanied by 2 ASES fellows from USA. We also had clinical meeting on shoulder. We were invited by Prof Funk on behalf of upper limb unit for dinners on two occassions. Prof. Funk was kind enough and presented a book to me authored by Mr. P. Monga and himself.
I spent weekend at Manchester with my batchmate and also went to Lake District which is quite close to Wigan.
I booked accommodation at Wigan with airbnb.
At last my sincere thanks to all the consultants and staff of Wrightington Hospital.
